i beleive it was posted a while ago but i once had a beautiful Collie/Lab X named Poco
at the age of 16 (in people years!) the vets said she had the health of a 5-7 year old!
she was in peak physical condition, and although she was never trained anything she was very lovable, playful and loyal.
she had never harmed a soul
but when she turned 17 she slowed down;
her eyes a cloudy blue, her body thin and frail, her run became a slow walk; but every time I greeted her she would be giving kisses, wagging her tail and jogging in circles around me "attempting" to be fast like her adopted pup Samantha (Lab/Samoyed X)
last christmas morning I went downstairs to give her a gift and I found her crying softly laying in her own feces.
she hadn't alerted me that night so I knew instantly that something was wrong
her hips had disinigrated and patting down her hair she felt only of bone.
I had a friend of the family put her down (as the vets were closed and I didn't want her to suffer)
it seems her pup (now 1 1/2 years old) thought maybe she was on an exceptionally long walk cause she never cried, or called for her mother.
but the last few days she's been crying in the yard
i figure its just now setting in that she's alone
well last night i forgot to lock the back door (which is old and easily pushed open)
i woke up at about 2 last night when i couldn't move my legs and there she was,
my 160lb wolf like outdoor dog
she had let herself in, found me, and was lying across my bed on top of me fast asleep
i didn't have the heart to tell her no,
in the morning she woke me by licking my hands softly
the funny thing is, her mother was the offectionate one,
she (being the puppy) was always play-play-play
i guess i'm gunna have to share my bed from now on
