Goldfish are too messy for me. Not that my fish aren't (Do platies EAT their shrimp, or tear it to pieces?) but I heard goldfish were one of the messier fish.
Also they're cold water.

My goldfish aren't messy at all, except for poop.
They will eat ANYTHING in their tank, (poop, too )

Also, I'm more into Cold Water fish.
(Is it the fish, or because I'm too cheap to buy any kind of heater for an aqaurium?)

I know alot about Bettas, too.
I had one before, you know. He was a little bugger, always flaring at me.

just make sure you have a heater for in and fillter and the tanks about 5g

I have to say i am partial to a pretty goldie. Thats where nearly everybody starts out right! I remember being all but 7 years old and winning my common named nelson. I loved him and had him about 4 years which is good going for a fairground fish. Not a touch on how old they can get when kept in a proper tank size though, which is like huge!!
Anyway i can guarantee youl be spending alot more time in the almighty bettas section.
And bring on the dreaded MTS and MBS (multiple betta syndrome) mwuhaaaaa!!!
