I wanted a bigger tank for my birthday as well and we went to petsmart to "look at fish" because it was on the way home and we saw this 120 gallon on sale! Only 390$ and it came with a stand, the tank, a UGF filter (crap filter  ) and some food and other stuff like that) so my boyfriend paid 300 and my mom paid the 90 and we brought it home that day. I have now had it for a month and still no fish in it. I was going to get larger cichlids but my community fish from my 29 gallon talked me into giving it to them. You could put your community fish in there AND get a type of cichlids. Like rams or discus?

what does that have anything to do with what I said? I do respect by parents, but that does not mean that they are right in this matter.

They have no right to tell me that if I have to buy it I cant get what i want for it. That is wrong.
Go get some ice, you obviously need to just cool down. Don't you dare take out your frustration on me. They are your parents and even if it doesn't seem fair to you, you just have to suck it up and deal with it. I didn't say I agree with your parents.
um, I think you need to cool down. If you dont like what I say, dont say anything back.

at all the others.

well my brother has a 55gallon tank, so he doesnt need the 29. i want to put the 10g fish into the 29 but no. I asked about using the 20 instead, and my dad didnt even answer.

My parents wont let me get cichlids is because I had some, and they died, so I returned the living one.

no, the gouramis would eat the fish. They are still little.

Hmm.. Can't you keep the 10g up and running until the little fish grow up?
Or just keep the 10g, they may not be able to live in there forever but it's better than nothing.

Orrrrr, it's the least favourite choice, but sell the fish back to the LFS? If there's nowhere else for them to go, it's something to think about. I've had to do it..

how about u get a Leporinus and then after it eats yur brothers fish u can return it and get cichlids! YAY CICHLIDS :fun:

I told you to cool down because I gave my opinion and you snapped back at me. Sorry that I offended you, I just said what I thought. You told me to cool down just because I might agree with your parents a little. Without your parents you wouldn't be there to even have fish. So just let's stop this because this is a stupid argument.

I always let my kids have what they wanted as long as we could afford it. They are grown up now and they are not spoilt or anything. :)

Nice. B)

update!

well, the parentssaid that if I do get the tank, it has to house the fish from the tank I have now. Frecking cmmunity fish! All I ahev is 4 small blue danios, and 5 catfish. 3 corries, 1 pleco, and 1 african catfish.

And, they wont let me buy any new fish!! Im frecking almost 18, like a week and 1/2! I should be able to get fish if I want. It is not their money, nor them that are ressposnible for the tanks.

Well there are some cichlids you could keep in a community tank (though you don't mention what catfish they are..cories? microglanis?)
Keyholes, kribs, angels, rams, apistogrammas and nannocaras. other than the angels these are all dwarf cichlids and will happily live beside other community fish. if you've had trouble keeping cichlids before i recommend the keyholes and bolivian rams as these fish are super hardy and full of character. Not as colourful as some of their relatives but good none the less. Do your research on the fish show the research to your parents and when they see you being sensible and responsible maybe they'll buy you some fish for your birthday! getting annoyed at them isn't going to help your case ! :/

Hey I can understand your frustration, it's not really fair.
