i got a royal gramma and a convict blenny/engineer goby today and i put them into my tank after acclimitization and what not. after releasing them from their bags, the royal gramma darted behind some rocks, which i kind of expected because it was rather shy at the store, while my convict runs up and down the glass. a few minutes later the convict is running down the glass where the royal gramma is and it starts flaring its mouth and tries to bite the convicts tail, which is kind of slapping the royal gramma in the face.

long story short, should i be worried about the royal gramma's aggressiveness towards the convict blenny or will this kind of dissipate after a while?

thanks!

Nothing much to worry about me thinks as far as the Gramma's mock aggression. They very rarely attack and open their mouths agape to ward off potential attackers or fish straying into their territory a sort of defensive posturing. Mine does it all the time to a Flameback Angel (which bothers it from time to time, especially when feeding).

Yeah, the gramma will find a spot that it calls home and will tend to chase off anything that comes near it (with the open mouth :) ) but I have never seen mine actually touch anything and while he is away from his hole he is never agressive to anyone (the problem came when my royal gramma and clown fish decided to stay in the same bit of rock, the gramma never left the poor clown fish alone).
