I saw on these fish in the store and though it was so cool, so I came home and did some research and all I found out is that the 36" long and need a tight fitting lid. I also read cases of them being in a cichlid tank, and I wondered if this was possable, thanks!

While i have never heard of a rope fish reaching anymore than 16" (40cm) the bit about the tight fitting lid is true, rope fish are expert escape artists and will get out of the tank at any opertunity. They are quite closely related to bichirs (polypterus sp) and are oppertunist carnivors that will make short work of the average communitty tank, like bichirs they also have poor eyesight and locate food by smell, for this reason a sand substrate is better to avoid your rope fish choking to death on pieces of gravel.
