Rope Fish

Hi All,

How predatory are Rope Fish?
What is the minimum size of other fish they can be kept with?
What is the minimum size tank they should be kept in?

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks
Squidward

I have a rope fish in a 55 gal. with mostly tetras and corys. I have had it about three years no problems. Added a couple more odd balls about a year ago that you may want to look at, a black rubber worm and a dragon fish still no problems. I find Java fern works well for planting.

What do you mean by "black rubber worm"? and what type of tetras did you keep with the ropefish?

Black rubber worm is hard to discribe I have seen it on this sight under oddballs. I would suggest a general search on the internet for a good look. Mine loves shrimp pellets. Tetras are black Tetras and Lemon Tetras in fact I have found young in the tank how they survived long enough for me to see them I don't know. Dragon fish is another good fish to look at.

you do know that caecillians or "black rubber worms grow 2ish ft long right?

Ps- dragonfish are pretty cool and can fit in a 55

Yes you are right about the size but with the style of body they have I have not had a problem. Mine is about 18 in. long and has lots of room. I can understand the concern but when you have the ability to curl into a little ball it dose't seem to matter.

I am still "umming and awwing" about the Ropefish idea.
Not sure if they will are a good idea or not!

I would not worry to much as long as they are feed well they will at like everything else as long as it will be supplied (food) they won't work for it. I just added a gold barb not more than a 1/2in. long not a problem.

I feed my tank twice a day in the morning they get shirmp pellets mostly for the Black Worm and flake food in the evening it is frozen brine shirmp for the Rope fish and flake food. They are spoiled.

Hi All,

Finally got myself 2 Rope Fish today.

A bigger one and a slightly smaller one.
The smaller one has settled in nicely. Gliding along the bottom of the tank.
The bigger one, not so. It rests on the bottom and then in a panic rises to the surface, and then heads straight for the bottom again. Doesn't sound good. But I hope this behaviour is just because it is unfamiliar with its surroundings, and not something terminal.

Thanks

Hi All,

Well a week on. And both my Ropes seem to spend most of their time hiding behind the bogwood in my tank.
Is this normal?

Thanks
Squidward

Yeh they'll be settling in, once they feel more secure they'll come out. They're good in groups so stay on the look out for some more :)

they;ll be active before you know it that what makes them so special as far as oddballs go
