Root Like Algae?

Hi All, I found this growing on my Vallis (Tall grass plant), it is not on any other plants and I thought it was part of the Vallis, but it came away easily and I think it is growing on the plant, is it algae?

Looks like the staghorn algae I had in my tank, for some reason my (now removed) vallis was really susceptible to it.
