lol when i was reading that, i read it in a shouty voice (in my head obviously). and that was the same when i was reading your posts MatthewShaw. there really is no need for caps

I think your fish has enough in it as it is. Your angels cannot stay in that tank anooher year, they will get stunted. Angels should be pretty much full grown by then also.

Oh yeah, and caps loack pisses me off too. There's no need for it, especially as you are asking for people to take time to help you.

Thanks for all your useful advice. I now know no more about keeping fish, but know how to use a keyboard!
I agree that people seem to have gone a bit overboard on the caps thing... -_- however it *is* considered rude, and its pretty hard to read. anyway...on to the fish
:D
basically once the angels are gone your best bet is to select some of the shoaling species (tetras, danios, corydoras) and bring the numbers of each up to six. Shoaling fish don't feel as secure in a group of less than six of their own kind, so they would be happier and more active in bigger groups. however you dont have room for 6 of all of them, so it would be best just to choose your favourites and return some others to the lfs. also, do you know what type of catfish you have? it will be a big factor in how many fish you can stock. ;)

to clarify, i don't think people were trying to mean or anything, maybe wording it differently would have helped. in the internet world, using all caps is considered "shouting" and is therefore a rude thing to do...... just for future reference, because as you have seen, people here will call you on it ;)

as for you fish:
2 RED EYE TETRAS
5 NEON TETRAS
2 CORY CATFISH
1 CATFISH
2 DWARF BLUE GOURAMI
2 DWARF RED GOURAMI
4 HARLEQUINS
4 RED FIN TETRAS
2 SMALL ANGELS (1.5")
2 LEOPARD DANIOS

the general rule for stocking is 1 inch of fish per 1 gal. you can stretch this slightly with good filtration and tank maintanence, but not by much. even without the angels, you are a bit overstocked. do you know what kind of catfish the "1 catfish" is?? i only ask because if it is a common plec, he will get way to big for your tank. as for your other fish, i'd do a little rearranging. tetras and harlequins and danios are all shoaling fish. this means they do best in groups of 6 or more. you really don't have room to do that, but you could pick one you like best and do a nice school of it. cories also do best in groups of three or more.....
now for the dwarf gouramis.. i'd personally suggest going down to one of each color or the two of the color you like best. but make sure they have plenty of places to hide, as they can be territorial with each other, watch for bullying. i've also been told that dwarf gouramis don't always do well with fast moving fish like danios, the fast movers can stress them out. maybe someone else can validate that for me.

thankyou, some good advice at last! The Dwarf Gouramis appear to be ok, will keep an eye on them. I have lots of plants. wood and rocks in my tank so that is probably why.
I have just posted a pic of my set-up in the pictures section/forum.

Hi matthew shaw, welcome to the forum! In your sig you say you have a common plec you should take that back to the LFS as they grow very big very fast i have had mine two years in that time he's grown form 2 inches long to 10 inches and is one mean fish, but it was an excuse to buy a bigger tank ;) !!
you are right in getting rid of the angels as they too grow big as well . but as mam said you are still overstocked so you need to pick your favourite fish and decide which ones to take back to the LFS or alternatively buy a bigger tank!! :D

Hi mat don't let it bother you to much whats been said in here its just a few people swinging their handbags

Caps is consididered shouting on the internet, but if you want shout its ok by me I'll put ear plugs in :p
oh and welcome

Just to point out.

36" x 12" x 12" TANK - 22.4 gallons
Fluval 4 filter

2 red eye tetras
4 red fin tetras
10 neon tetras
2 corys
1 common plec
2 dwarf blue gourami
2 dwarf red gourami
4 harlequins
2 small angels (1.5")
2 leopard danios

Your common plec over stocks the tank by itself unless you plan to get rid of it?

I would suggest also you take back some of the fish you have only 1-3 of and increase fish numbers in the other shoals of tetras, danios etc
