I don't know how many times I have told people to research before you buy. Don't buy a fish without knowing what you are getting into. Well, I went to my lfs (60 miles away). The guy that runs it was out for the day, so I had to deal with the younger guy that doesn't know much, but he likes to learn. After I picked out my german blue rams and my glass catfish, I was leaving and something caught my eye. I stood watching this beautiful fish. I asked the guy what it was and he said he didn't know, but it had been there for months and was eating out of his hand. So I watched for about half an hour. He was in with some cories, platies, and a couple whiptailed catfish. The guy said he was eating pellets and frozen brine shrimp. Stupid me! I bought him, and he wasn't cheap. Today I decided to do some research. It looks like my new impulse buy is a jade goby. Not only will he out grow the tank I have him in, but he will also make lunch out of everything else I have in the tank. He should also be in a brackish tank, not freshwater. This was my own fault, not the guy at the store. Luckily, I have a fishroom and extra tanks. Most people don't have that luxury. Guess my job tonight, after working 11 hours, is going to be to set up a proper home for the goby. On the up side, I will have a brackish tank now and can get a few of the fish I want for it. Remember, research!

Well, I can finally get the scats I've wanted, or maybe some monoseabes(I can't spell). I just haven't gotten a brackish tank up yet. I keep getting side tracked. Now I have no choice.

I make the owner of my LFS laugh,
I'll be in there browsing for an hr at a time, writing names down, I'll leave and come back after researching to buy one fish sometimes.
He just smiles and asks " what did you learn about these guys" lol

I think i might die of shock if someone did some research before coming into the shop!!

Brackish set ups are fun! It was 'by accident on purpose' then!! Monos are mentalists! I love the sebaes far more than the argenteus (which ended up full marine) but found them to be really prone to whitespot

Gorgeous fish but need a decent sized setup, i'd be tempted with the archerfish and puffers if I went brackish, id not be able to choose!!

Though ultimately, if I went brackish again, i'd be a sucker for 'freshwater' pipefish again!! Such an amazing species to keep if you feel brave!

Well, I got the little jade goby in a temporary brackish set up. I have to admit, I'm really noty sure what I'm doing. I've never had a brackish tank.I will have to set him up a permanant home this weekend. I didn't realize there were so many brackish fish. I've always done freshwater and haven't run out of new exciting fish yet. Guess it's time to do some research.
