Hi just a question are rocktiel and redneck severums the same ?
i love these fish and hope to get some in the near future i was just wondering if there is any difference and if so how to identify the rocktiels i have only had redspot sevs in the past as the above do not seem to be readily available in the fish shops.

Yeah this one confused me for a while, The Rotkeil (Heros sp. Rotkeil) is sometimes called the redhead severum or red necked severum, and the Heros appendiculatus is sometimes called the red shouldered severum when you try and google  , very confusing, both are similarish looking fish however I have only seen pictures of the Heros appendiculatus, but the Rotkeils are gorgous

what about this one

Ditto above nice male Rottie there

gorgeous!!! stunning specimen his neck is going to look awseome :D what other fish is he in with?

So what is the difference between Heros sp. Rotkeil sev and the red shouldered sev Heros appendiculatus and how do you tell the difference ? and which of the two is the rarer?

From what I have read personally the Rotkeil has a bluer face, and stronger colouration my photobucket account is playing up so I cant put pictures up at the moment, but these links are to pictures of both, you can see they are very similar.

To further confuse  they are also sometimes sold as heros severus, which is totally incorrect. See will's post
