I can get cheap RO water from a local water shop that supplies water for company water coolers and such, so maybe look for a place like that?

Don't BUY R-O water, get yourself a £50 R-O unit that will do about 20 Gallons a day.
Although, as i said to you, R-O water is over-rated, it's not needed as badly as alot of marine aquarists will have you believe...

www.ro-man.co.uk do good ro units i bought the 4 stage unit for 75 quid and its a good unit TDS comes out 0 which is good for reef tanks.

the resin is also on there and it quite cheap but to be fair on a 50g tank u should be able to fill it and be able to get 25% water change once a week out of the resin DI before having to change it...

as a matter of fact im filling my new 75G marine tank up with ro water at the minate its taken 5 hours to fill 70% of it but its alot easier then carting it from your LFS and alot cheaper.

a 2 stage will do the job on a fish only but for reefs make sure its got a DI on the end and you cant go wrong...
