Ro Water In Tropical.

Hi is it safe to use RO water in a tropical set up, or does it need something adding to it?

depends on the species that you want to keep. Some fish prefer soft water so they would liky be fine and rather appreciate you using RO. Other species need hard water so youd have to add back some minerals.
what are your plans for stocking, or is it just a general question?

You must always add minerals back into RO water for use with fresh water fish, the minerals are required for osmoregulation, at different quantities obviously, so you'd have to add per the manufacturers instructions.

Hi i was just a general question but if i was going to do it on amy of my tanks it would be my 90L (see sig) i have quite soft water (6.6 ph) as it is so probably wont be worth using RO water.

depends on the substrate really and any mineral content and species in question (tollerance with soft vs hard). But fair enough response.

I've known people make their water.
using only RO and re mineralisation additives, as standby says.
but i can't, like you , see any benefit to using RO to 'cut' the water from your tap.

if you have soft water just making more work for yourself using RO. Most people as mentioned use RO to "cut" hard water (or even ammonia in their tap water) for more sensitive soft water species. Might as well not use it then, even if you have access to it.
