Could i use the waste generated from my RO unit that i will use on my marine tank to use for water changes on my tropical tank?

I gotta justify to the MRS that its worth while having the RO unit with the amount of waste it uses.

If you know what is in the waste water, it may well be fine for a freshwater tank that needs high concentrations of dissolved minerals. There are few cases where tap water cannot be used in a tank and the concentrations in RO waster are not much higher than tap water in dissolved minerals. The prefilters will have removed all the suspended solids so it will likely be better water than you get right out of the tap.

Would't that increase the concentration of everything? Including anything bad? I would just use it to water the garden as well.

I may be an eternal optimist but I figure that a 10 to 20% increase in impurities would do no harm.

i would say less

it will contain anything that can't pass through the membrane

The waste water has been through the first few stages of mechanical filtration so it is better than tap that way but then it has the mineral content in it that was removed by the RO membrane itself. It will be a bit higher in dissolved minerals than the raw water but will have less particles floating in it. The pre-filters for an RO are quite good because the particles will make a RO membrane go bad pretty fast.

Whats the input TDS ??

For example , mine is about 80 on avarage. The waste comes out at about 90.

And 90 is of a beter quality than some areas input water - Plus it has the advantage of being pre filtered (carbon and sediment)

So, depending on the input TDS i think its ok to use...

Not sure on input TDS yet as not got the RO unit setup.

My thinking was its got to be roughly the same as what comes out of the tap right, just slightly more concentrated, nothing extra has gone into it so add that to roughly 200L of wwater already in the tropical tank i cant see it causing an issue
