Hey all, I'm getting a little sick of transporting triple distilled DI water from work and am looking to get a home RO unit. Since I never considered buying one when starting up my tank, all I really know about them is how they work, I have no clue what brands or models are good. Since my tank is comparatively small in the marine world I think I'm looking at a 100GPD unit. If you guys could let me know if that's right and what makes/models you use yourselves, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks :)

Personally I use a system that is hodge podged together and fairly customed now. No real brand to any of it other than the GE SmartWater base. Now that I really know what is going on, if I had to do it over I would buy a system off ebay or from Buckeye Field Supply. http://www.buckeyefieldsupply.com/ Call and talk to Russ. They are a sponser to our local reef club and can set you up custom for what you'd need. Good prices too.

I would recommend a 50gal/day 3 stage unit with additional DI. If you really want it to be efficient add a booster pump. I also recommend adding a storage tank of at least half the volume of your tank.

Thanks elece. I'll check that place out. I was also looking at Kent RO units. Any oppinion on them?

I'm looking at getting a used one for a whopping $40 (35GPD Hi-S 4 stage)

that's a good price if the filters are all still good. If you have to replace all the filters you might as well buy a new one.

Yeah, that turned out to be the case (most were shot). Instead someone local getting out of the hobby sold me a 2 month old 100GPD 6-stage like SH posted along with a TDS meter for $80. Gonna pick it up on tuesday :)

Thanks for the suggestions guys

Ski, how big is your tank (I can't remember)? I would suggest looking into adding a storage tank to that if your tank is bigger than 55 gal. Nothing is harder than needing water and having to wait. 100 gal/day is fast until you really need that water ASAP!

Thanks for the concern :) My tank is a 45gal and I have a 40 gallon big garbage can with lid in the basement (going to run the RO off the wash basin there) that I'm going to fill and put a transfer gear pump in. Running a line up to the 2nd floor (hence the gear pump) through the laundry chute right out next to the room with a tank. Flick a switch, instant water :)
