:(

I brought him with me over thanksgiving (in a travel bowl, .5 gallons... I know... small...) and had used the water from his tank, which I did 50% water changes twice daily.

I brought him because I was afraid he might not make it through the weekend. He was fasting already due to swim bladder, he can't see, and I had no clue how the temperatures might be. He just got worse as the weekend went along, barely moving, etc. He had one more day of fasting (I was doing 3 days, then a deshelled pea), and I woke up this morning, he wasn't moving. At all. Just staring blankly out at nothing.

:( :( :( :(

My first betta...

RIP Glorfindel

Also... a question. I'm unsure now of whether or not I can put Khal Drogo in his old tank. Glorfindel was starting to have dropsy symptoms towards the end (slightly), and I'm worried about it. Khal Drogo has been living in a monitored 50% daily water changes 1.5 gallon tank, and I was planning on moving him into the 5 gallon with Glorfindel... but was having a REALLY hard time finding a divider (not sure why...)... so it hadn't been done. I am going to do a 50-75 percent water change first off, putting in the dechlorinator, checking all the nitrites, nitrates, ammonium, etc... but should I possibly put in some sort of parasite medication... just to make sure?

Dropsy isnt contagouse as its a fail of internal organs and body fluid increase not due to the illness ( but it is in some way) but i personally would start again if ur betta is happy in his 1.5 gal for a bit i would start again :) :(

Thanks.

As for "start again", do you mean start the cycling process all over again? As for the dropsy, I know that dropsy in specific is a symptom, not the illness, I was just wondering if it would be possible for something that caused it to be contagious. But yeah.

So... I should remove the plants, clean out the tank, remove all the current material (I forgot what it's exactly called, it's in the filter), and just start over? Or... what? I want to use it again and put Khal Drogo and perhaps a couple of snails or something in there... but I also don't want it to be a danger zone or anything. He's happy for now in his 1.5 gallon tank... but it's a cheap plastic thing... and I have to do water changes if not daily than every other day at least... so the sooner I can move him into the 5 gallon tank the better... but... like I said... I don't want to put him in danger or anything.

Sorry to hear about your loss...
Like it was mentioned, I'd definitely disinfect everything in the tank just in case! "an ounce of prevention is worth 10 pounds of cure" it's always better to eliminate the possibility something in the tank caused it.

Good luck
And cool names btw!

Thanks. Will do. Do I need to throw out my live plants as well? I have three plants in there currently...

I dnt think you need to get rid of the plants ive heared soaking them in a small amount of salt or even fresh tap water will "clense" them but again personally i would just strip everything out scrub it and re start :)
