It's not often I put a death on here,,, but Big Red was very special and a few of you knew him, one of Shells.

Gutted, totaly totaly gutted. Had a good spawn 4 days ago, lots of eggs which he was duly puting back in nest and he is one who sits under nest very still to guard it. So when there wasn't alot of movement from him I didn't think much of it. Kept looking for wigglies and he was still there. Yesterday morning he'd moved to side of tank and was still there at tea time. So i gave him a gentle nudge and he hardly moved. He was pineconed all over. Got him in epsom salt bath , fresh water etc Still alive this morning so i got new water ready to change him and when i went back to get him he'd died. He didn't have the dropsy tummy either. So so bloomin sudden, I didn't have a chance to do anything much.:(

He was such a good dad and a lovely gentle boy. I've got 3 babies from his first spawn so i'm hoping that i've got a m & f there.

Bless him R.I.P.
Know how you feel I was gutted when my fancy goldifsh tweety died.

Awwwwww thanks Wilder. Is there anything else that causes pineconing apart from dropsey? As i said, there wasn't the usual tell tale sign of the fat belly

Awwww Dusky.....I'm so sorry to hear about Big Red and completely understand how frustrated you are at losing him. Dropsy got my Draco too recently :-(

:rip: Big Red

Fingers crossed you have a boy and girl from him at least!!

i understand what your feeling, dropsy took livingston from me. its funny i have lost too mollies since then, but i have not felt as gutten by the loss of a fish unless its a betta. they are speical fish and i know big red will be missed.

Thanks Wilder.

Awwww ty sailor,,,sat here with tears :(

Netty i thinkkkkkkkkkk i've got one baby from this spawn!!!!!! can see something very very tiny swimming about. Maybe a bug thing of course thats got in but i'm just hoping its a babyand also hoping there may be some more lurking.

Only thing I know is when scales stick out its dropsy.
Scales can lift slightly if parasites are underneath.
Get you some info.

OMG the picture of the one with severe dropsy is horrible. Well according to those Big Reds was just starting, he was like the first picture which is why I thought i had a chance with salt baths. I wonder if something could of happened during the mating process.

bless him, he was a nice boy and a great father but hey you have fry already from him, things come to an end as sad as it is but the next generation is here so concentrate on them and enjoy watching them grow and hopefully you will get one just like him. at least one of them is gunna be like him from what ive seen.
