The topic pretty much says it all. It's for a 125gl tank, freshwater (I posted here, because I knew there were more sump users here), and I was wondering which pump you would recommend out of the two. Thanks!

Yuck, neither... Queit One pumps are NOT queit, and Rios are notorious for failure in higher-pressure application like sumps. What sort of flowrate are you looking for through the sump? What is the size of your drain piping? Submersible or external? And what will be the height difference from the top of the water level in the sump to the top of the water level in the tank? Answering those questions can help us reccomend a proper pump :)

I'm looking for about 1200gph submersible pump with 1" drain piping. The height difference would be about 3-4ft. Also, I wanted to run two pumps, instead of one large one, in case of failure. Thanks for your help!

EDIT: I have been looking at other pumps and have heard that the mag drive pumps are reliable... what would you suggest? Link

Ok, a 1" drain pipe can handle 600GPH of ACTUAL flowrate. This means that at ~4-5 feet of head pressure (always add a foot for pipes/fittings/etc) you want 600GPH worth of flowrate. As mentioned, Danner Magdrive pumps are very reliable and quite available in the states, a good choice for this application. Now for pump selection. If you look at the flowrate vs head pressure chart (halfway down the page) you'll notice that at ~4-5 feet of head pressure you're pushing ~450gph with a Mag 7 and ~775gph with a 9.5... The 9.5 would be too big, although the 7 would be a little too small.

You'd essentially have 3 options:

1. One Mag 7 operating full out all the time
2. One Mag 9.5 with plumbing installed to re-direct some of its flow back to the sump so as to not out-compete the drain
3. A pair of Mag 5s going full out both going to seperate returns in the display tank

Make sense?

Edit: Forgot to ask, are you using a Durso, Calfo, or an Overflow box for your drain?
