Ok, a 1" drain pipe can handle 600GPH of ACTUAL flowrate. This means that at ~4-5 feet of head pressure (always add a foot for pipes/fittings/etc) you want 600GPH worth of flowrate. As mentioned, Danner Magdrive pumps are very reliable and quite available in the states, a good choice for this application. Now for pump selection. If you look at the
flowrate vs head pressure chart (halfway down the page) you'll notice that at ~4-5 feet of head pressure you're pushing ~450gph with a Mag 7 and ~775gph with a 9.5... The 9.5 would be too big, although the 7 would be a little too small.
You'd essentially have 3 options:
1. One Mag 7 operating full out all the time
2. One Mag 9.5 with plumbing installed to re-direct some of its flow back to the sump so as to not out-compete the drain
3. A pair of Mag 5s going full out both going to seperate returns in the display tank
Make sense?
Edit: Forgot to ask, are you using a Durso, Calfo, or an Overflow box for your drain?
