heya.
i would like to add either java moss or riccia to my bogwood in my aquacube.
i was wondering which u would reccomend, for looks, ease to keep/grow and how quick it will spread on my wood.

cheers :good:

IMO the riccia would require more start up work and maintenance. Personally i prefer the look to the moss on bogwood and the riccia as a carpet on slate such as the pinned post.

Yep, I'd agree. Java moss is far easier to grow, and will attach to the wood given time. Riccia however is the devils spawn and will just float about and make a mess. I might be slightly biased though

No, riccia has to be anchored down, usually with a hair net or similar, and it will grow through the netting. It won't anchor to anything as it is naturally a floating plant. It will also get to the point where it will release new bits into the water etc. Generally riccia needs reasonable light, and CO2 is recommended (but I guess not essential).

If you're just starting out, go with mosses (not just Java moss, taiwan moss, christmas moss, flame, peacock, willow etc etc) :)

I vote for the moss aswell. It looks really good, Ive recently given it a try. The growth is slow, but not as slow as I would have thought.
Riccia has just annoyed me. Gets everywhere and makes a mess.
