Had a lovely bundle of riccia left over when doing my tropical tank so thought I would stick a slate full in my coldwater / sub tropical tank.

Found a lovely piece of slate, placed the riccia, secured with a hairnet. extra secured with some nylon thread.

It looked the business.

Next morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this the way its supposed to look

oops. how did that happen? it looks perfect as in the nets tight and you've wrapped cotton around it....

any ideas how it all came out. i've never seen that happen. maybe a bit can escape/get pulled out by a fish but not every single piece of riccia.

very wierd.

is it floating or has it been eaten?

maybe your hillstream loach did it? he definatly wouldn't have eaten it because he'd be huge now but he could have knocked it all out. these are very quick fish and it wouldn't take a long time for him to pull it out.
otherwise, do you have a pleco? this would be your best bet.
if its all gone, im baffled lol if its floating, its a fish

i very much doubt a plec could do that. i've had various plecs in my tanks with multipul riccia covered objects. theyve never touched it.

that is so odd, any idea who did it?

Our loaches play in our Java moss all day long (which is also tied to slate) and have never kicked any up.

Whoever did it ate it as there wasn't as much as a blade floating.

Theres a big adult bristlenose in there too.

Gonna have to stick to plastics in that tank as the Vallis was turned to nothing in a day the only thinh they have left alone is a big bulb I have put in.

Ah well, just have to stick to planting the tropical. :good:
