Soooo! Most people will go buy shoes, clothes, handbags, games... chocolate... not me!

I'm heading over to Bow Aquatics later to pick up some girls. It is the same place I got Bubbles and Bella from from, so I'm going to have to be careful about the females, ie: making sure they ARE female lol. I popped in the other day whilst looking at snakes and saw they had some interesting females in at the moment. They had a smoky red with black lining on her tail. A silver bodied turquoise crown tail. What looked like a mustard gas something.. though I wasn't sure enough to grab her at the time. Plus many other lovely ladies, who to me look like pks and cts. I just hope I don't come home with a male again.

Well I will post in about an hour and a half with a little update on what I actually get! With total picture spam, of course B)

Argh...

I went into Bow, was pleasantly surprised at their water conditions, the snakes and other things they had, so felt confident that the fish Fighters would be pretty decent too. Boy was I wrong

Males and females in together. 4 males (yes, 4 at once) fighting. 3 of the females were at each other. At least 7 were attacking a 7"(ish) clown loach that had got itself stuck behind the heater... it was a blood bath. I called an assistant over and asked what on earth was going on, he said nothing and just shrugged. I explained that though they were very young fish, the fact that they were blatantly fighting was a good indication there would soon be some deaths. He netted some out and put them in discus and angel tanks, Jesus Christ I thought. Decided I wasn't going to get any after that but carried on looking around. I pulled the staff up on about 5 tanks, explaining the certain fish really shouldn't be kept together/in that small space etc.

Then went to pets@home, I was ####ing shocked. No I'm not apologising for my language, I was ####ing outraged. Not at the Fighters however, but the other things they had. A huge Arowana in a 10g tank with about 10 corries and a handful of mollies. Lobsters in with clown loaches, goldfish AND guppies :S Gawd, I just walked out, you can bet they will be getting a letter from me. So! no girls for me, I give up with trying to get any live animal in my area. I've decided that I am from now on just going to keep what I have and once they're gone, they wont be replaced with any more.

That's horrible!

You can report them to your local SPCA or whatever animal agency you have. Nothing may come of it, but you never know. There was a lfs around here that was reported for basically the same things. The owner was fined like $3000 and had to provide adequate tanks and tank mates. He gets checked on once a month or so. It was a big news story
