Right, it's time to start thinking what I want to restock my tank with now I've managed to get back in to the wonderful hobby and cleaned my mess up. I've tested the pH of my water (which is around 7.5), I have a sand substrate with 2 fairly large pieces of bogwood covered in java fern. I also have a small rock with a generous amount of java moss however that's it for plants seeing as the rest died off.

I currently have 1 bristlenose plec, 1 lonely cardinal tetra (the rest died) and 3 rummy nosed tetras. I previously stocked 8 peppered corys which didn't really last long for some reason, a pair of dwarf gouramis and 9 other cardinals. I think the reason they didn't really last long was due to my poor attitude to water changes however I've sorted that now.

Anyway, I was just wondering what fish you guys recommend while I do my research. Ohh, and my tank is a Roma 125!

Get 5-7 more cardinals and another 3-5 rummynose to get your school sizes up to where they should be for sure.

Also, how long has it been since your other fish died? In case there's a different underlying cause. Are the fish you currently have healthy? If they all died in the last couple of weeks or so it'd be a good idea to keep up with good water changes and monitor your existing fish first to make sure you've eradicated the problem.

If they died ages ago though, and your current fish are happy and healthy, start off with the extra tetras. You'll need to add them gradually though as your tank will only be cycled enough to cope with the current stock.

Why don't you name a few "centrepiece fish" that you like the sound of and let the folks on here give you some advice on them :)

Yeahh, they died ages ago. What are left are just the hardest of the bunch that have been able to deal with the lack of cleaning or water changes. They seem healthy though and have really livened up since I started cleaning up. I wouldn't say there are any problems at the moment :)

As for centrepiece fish, it isn't really the biggest of tanks so I'm rather limited to things like dwarf or honey gouramis. They didn't seem to last very long last time I had them either, one died after a few days and the other after a few weeks. Probably due to a lack of water changes and the pH building up or something.

cardinals are not good in new set ups, if you've just had fish die and are starting again i'd advise against them

Yeahh, I think that was the problem back when I got them. It has been stocked for about a year now though so I think they would be fine if I got some more. Just thinking about my pH though because it's the top end of what they like.

I've seen people on here saying they keep them at that PH so can't see that being a problem mate. Great fish one of my favourites. have 27 in a tank and they are superb!

I'll try some more then :)

Just got a nice shot of my bristlenosed plec by the way, going to upload it now :)

Thanks!

Anyway, back on topic for any new posters...
Potential stock for a 125L tank with sand substrate and bogwood, currently stocked with a bristlenosed plec, 3 rummy nosed tetras and 1 lonely cardinal tetra. Tap water pH of 7.5 which can obviously be maintained with regualr water changes.

I think I'm going to get about 8 more cardinals and try some honey or dwarf gouramis again. I want corys too but they didn't do so well last time...

Dwarf cichlids would work well mate, the less sensitive ones

What was the reason the cories didnt do so well? They would also fit well with this stocking
