Hello All, I have been keeping freshwater aquariums for about 20-25years; but I am still a newbie of sorts.
I have a 55gallon aquarium of mostly Gouramis. The overall total inches of my fish community equals 63". I like the concept of a few snails in my tank, and I am investigating the concept of some sort of fish no more than 5" in length that can help me keep my invertabra down to a low roar.
I am concisdering a schoal from the Cordoras Catfish family. When it comes to selectively picking out what type of fish a person would like to obtain; What is the best way of finding that species to purchase?

-_-

Corydoras do not eat snails so they wouldnt be of any help to you.

To be honest at 63 inches in a 55 gallon tank you are as heavily stocked as you can be, the rough rule of thumb is 1 inch per gallon which can be bent around a little but i wouldnt recomend going more than 10 inches over that without some serious additional filtration in the form of a large canister of sump.

You know I did see the concept of 1" per gallon somewhere long ago. Thanks
The more I look at my tank for mind you I have had it for a very long time I am thinking it maybe a 75gallon versus a 55gallon. I am going to check into to be sure. I may have to start up a second tank :look:
As far as the Corydoras family goes, I have found while reading up on them that the Sailfin Cordoras and the Dwarf Cordoras will accept flake food but does best on small aquatic invertebrates. (does this mean snails?). :dunno:

While in utilizing the brains of my 20year old son who is studying to be a Physics Engeineer( :kana: ); I have determined my tank to be a 55gallon tank. With this in mind I maybe in trouble  I know I just nursed on of my Khuli's back to health from white spots which I think I caused due to taking advised from a friend and adding 3 mid sides clown loaches to the tank to take care of the snail issue.
All 3 clown loaches die and one of my Khuli's became ill. I have since stablized the tank and have been monitoring it closely. I currently have a undergravel filteration system on it in addition to a dual head penguin filteration system. But yes I think you are absolutly right and my tank is over stocked. While wish me luck for I will be looking into a small 2nd tank maybe a 20-30 gallon. Thank for advised.... Sincerely Shari800 :kewlpics:
