So a friend of mine had a 30g tank that cracked pretty bad. Gushed water all over her living room. She asked if i would have room to take her fish as she couldn't afford to replace my tank. Well the fish look to be a cichlid of some type, and I believe they are New World. They are currently in a 75g tank with my 2 Severums and a Jewel. They are all getting along well right now (I am keeping a close eye though, as my Jewel can be pretty mentrual) Each of these fish are close to 4 inches long and I think they will probably get bigger. Can someone ID them for me so I can get some info on them? My friend is not going to take them back and I need to know if I should rehome them, or if i have the space to provide them a home. I also think that the tank she had them in was too crowded as they all have nipped fins. One of them I am treating for possible fin rot. Help please?

If I cannot provide for these fish, I am going to rehome them. But I would like to know what kind of fish i am rehoming lol.

They are some kind of Vieja - possibly V.Synspilla but not 100% as they look a little washed out they might colour up in a few days - the middle one is possibly a hybrid because of the black patches but not sure. Very nice fish but get very big to around a foot and quite chunky but full of personality top one is particularly nice looking :)

Ohhh a foot? I am going to have to rehome them. I cannot accomadate them at that size. But I will at least get them healed before I rehome them.

looks like a very nice bifasciatus in 1 and 3. 2 looks a little to beat up to tell

I think #2 is natural coloring, not neccessarily beat up. That one is actually in the best condition of the three.

I think they are lovely as well. If they get as big as wills thinks, there is no way I can keep them :( Oh well, I am going to get their fins healed up and find them a good large tank to go to.

Yep, they will reach a good 12" plus and are usually very deep bodied, around 6". Synspilla and Bifasciatus are some of the less aggessive species of Vieja, but even still command respect due to size etc.

Nice save Jourdan, hopefully they heal well and you find them all new homes. :)

They are quite interesting fish. I really wish I could keep them. If I find a great deal on a 100-150g tank, I just may. And my jewel likes them, which is a plus.

I would love to, but I have the two Severums that are gonna get 9 inches apiece!! I cant have 45 inches of fish in the 75g tank!

Technically, if they get along without too much argy bargy and you have a good maintenance schedule along with good filtration you could... :hey:

You might get away with 1 in the 75 with the others but ideally they do want a 5 or 6 foot tank as they are big fish that can turn quite nasty :/

Just a thought but could you squeeze a 6x2x2 180 gallon in somewhere? If you like the big fish, as you do, I would just jump in and get a big big tank :)

I would love to to do that wills, I really would, but I cannot afford another tank. And if I got a 6ft tank, I would have to get rid of my 55g as there is not room for another large tank. But getting rid of the 55g would mean that my Mbuna would upgrade to the 75g...
