I asked her if she did bigger bowls, 1 gallon or larger as i did not feel the bowl she sells is big enough, i got this reply -

I asked:
"Hiya, What is the absolute biggest size bowl you do? I would like one, but believe the sizes you sell are not humane, would it be possible to get a gallon sized bowl? Many thanks, Allix"

Response -
I do a gumball with a tank that holds about 3/4 of a gallon that is 34.99 made how you want it. and i do a gallon size they are 44.99 any theme. now remember you are dealing with betta fish i have been in the betta fish business many years they require very little water that's why at the pet store or where ever else you purchase your betta they are in less then a cup of water. i house care for and sell over 70 betta's a week. since they have to be housed alone any tank with a least 2 cups of water and air space is really fine. they come shipped from thialand in ounces of water. now if you want to put a few gold fish or guppies then you need at least a gallon tank. as far as for the beauty of a tank and veiwing a larger tank is great. betta come from the mud puddles in thialand they developed lungs over the centries because the waters were so dirty they had to come up for air to breathe. in thialand betta's are considered garbage unless they are used for fighting now that's inhumane

Heh, I don't even know what to say. That response is something else. I suddenly smell lots of cattle poo...

well she got the last bit right about fighting but as for fish being garbage i suggest she gets out a bit more.......    :dunno:

Perhaps i should ask her how she would like it if she was put in a clear tank that was only just big enough for her to stand up and touch the sides?

Geez that person is not even worth considering as a human with rights; all she is trying to do is justify her actions by comparing them with anothers- with are very debatable/controversal and give no excuse for her own actions.
I do not know which is more worrying; that she has been doing this kind of thing for years or that fact she sells over 70 bettas a week...

Bettas need qood water quality, they are tough fish but that is no excuse to make them live in bad conditions; and that betta history about them living in muddy puddles is total bo***cks- maybe she mistook a betta for a lung fish :sly: ??

Well I guess in other 3rd world countries they really don't practice humane ways when it comes to pets or animals. In some countries they would raise a dog to be their pet, but at one point they will use that pet that they have raised to be food on the table. Different cultures, different ways. The majority of us we treat our pets as part of the family. We pay doctor visits, buy special food etc. So if we hear or see otherwise we feel bad. We really are at the mercy of these overseas breeders, unless we breed our own. Just my .02 cents.

Thats awful, it's like us being put in a box not being able to move, fed in there, and having to do your business in there, how sad, poor fish.

I do like what she sells, and she does have the Gallon sized bowls, but it doesnt seem right to stick a betta in a table top decoration!!!

so..you buy what she is saying?
just to set it straight, bettas are not considered "garbage" in thailand (yes, that's how you spell it), why else would so many thai breeders sell them on aquabid etc. for big money?
the seller sounds like a idiot.

Christ. i felytt my 3 gallon was too small for my betta so got him a 6 gallon lol.

I feel sorry for the ones in tiny tiny tanks. they cant even have a good swim and since swimming keeps them in shape how can a fish in such a small bowl be healthy lol.

To bad they dont get along because i would love tohave two beta in a tank lol

and omg

44 dollars and i assume that america for a 1 gallon bowl

Thats pretty expensive.

"so..you buy what she is saying?"

No, but I'm sure some breeders really don't treat them in very humane manners.
Fighting these fish to me as it stands is very inhumane. So who knows what else they are capable of doing.

i think they meant, that if people will fight them to death what else will people do to them?
I suppose. But they're rarely fought to 'death' -_-
An opinion on a single matter such as that shouldn't be insulting to a country/people as a whole. That's rather close minded.

But we shant turn this into a fighting thread. We have one of those already  This is about that seller and her cups o'death.

I was not trying to insult Thailand or other countries that fight Betta's. What I wanted to point out was different cultures will have different ways than others.
It's acceptable for them to fight Betta's, but I'm sure it's not acceptable to us. Just as it's illegal to have pitbull or cockfights. No insult intended :look:
