Replacing Built In Marineland Filter Media?

Well I saw an add for a used Marineland eclipse 30 gallon tank for 75 bucks and thought that I may look into it. Now i have 2 Eclipse 5 gallons right now, 1 is a bow and the other is a hex. Both have internal filters that are a pad with carbon inside which is nothing special. Now if i where to get the 30 it would have a large long area that the current runs through and then into the bio wheel, what I want to know is what kind of media would be best placed with it. I am thinking Bio Max or some floss but am wondering if anything else would work out well. I also plan to add a Fluval 3+ in there perhaps. Here's a image of what the filter is like:
