Hi

In terms of quality what make is generally better Rena or Fluval Roma?

Are Rena's the Mercedes (good quality)of aquariums where as Fluval are the Ford's (cheap and cheerful?)

I ask because I have the chance to buy a secondhand Rena 200L for £175 or should I go for a new Roma 240L for £350+?

They look the same to me?

Thanks

Never had a rena tank or looked at them so i cant exactly compare.
I've got the fluval roma 240 tho, it's a nice tank - has abit more height then a few other tanks i've seen.

I'd personally go for the second hand rena, spend the rest of cash on other fish related gear :good:

It's only a glass box. I think what you are paying for is the design. I too would go for one you can afford and look pleasing to your own eyes.

I personally got 2 secondhand tanks. Saved a bucket!

I have 2 Fluval tanks, The Roma 125 and the Vicenza 180. They are both really well made tanks and nicely designed. The cabinets are brilliant and the filters etc are excellent. I also have a Aqua One AR620 which is stunningly made, imo even better quality. I am after the AR980 to have in place of my Vicenza as it would fit the gap i have in between the chimney breast and the stairs perfectly. :good:

It's always nice having a brand new boxed tank, but 2nd hand is a hell of a lot cheaper and if you can find one that has been looked after well with no scratches etc then it is even better. My AR620 was 3 months old, came with gravel, extra internal filter, 3 ornaments and a breeding pair of Kribensis with fry for £150!! :hyper:

We have a Juwel 180 which is really good quality. It sits on a Fluval cabinet which is also excellent quality. I know you can not really compare between glass and wood, but I would say that the quality is about even. As already has been said though try and buy second hand. All of my tanks have come from ebay or freecycle.

All 3 companies you have mentioned are amongst the top 3 mainstream tank manufacturers out there so which ever you go for, You should be buying a quality tank,

Personally I would never buy a second hand tank or equipment, and I'd always go for the biggest tank I could afford, so by that reckoning alone I'd go for the Roma

Thanks for all your reply’s. I’m off to have a look at the Rena tank tonight and am confident that the build quality will be good (I was initially concerned that Rena may have been a budget brand). For me personally I have no problem with second-hand goods and as Proxo mentioned can spend the savings on more fish stuff.

This tank comes with fish too which is actually a problem as I understand the tank has to be cycled!

Many thanks to all again, much appreciated.
