Got a new tank today, only a 70 Litre, but it was free :D, unfortunately it was MINGING , in fact its from my aunty who had a goldfish in and didn't clean it for months as they didn't want the fish  I made her give the fish away before she kills it and I've had the tank, some people make me SO MAD :grr:.

Anyhow, the clear silicon sealant is impregnated with algae, which I cant seem to get out, I've rubbed, scrubbed and sterilised the thing, am I gonna have to put up with it or is there a magic solution to clean it off?

I don't want to put any fish in, as I'm going on holiday early in November and there's nobody to look after the tank I have.

Cheers

Not sure what "minging" means, but anyway... :p

I've been able to remove algae from silicone by simply scrubbing it with a toothbrush. However, your algae problem sounds much more severe than any I've ever had.

Good luck!

Try scrubbing with a tooth brush and by using a salt solution in hot water. The salt acts like an abrasive and sterilizes as well ;)

Cheers guys the toothbrush seems to have worked :D but now my teeth have gone green :p.
