Rehousing My Apple Snail In A Biorb?

Do Apple Snails need to be in warm water? I have one and the b*gger is chomping on my HC Cuba and Staurogyne sp. which is veeerrryy annoying. Shame as I think it looks awesome.

Anyway I have a heavily planted 60l biorb. It isn’t heated and houses a little school of barbs, some zebra danio and currently a fancy goldfish. The water isn’t heated but its not cold - would he be happy enough in there? He would be welcome to have the odd chew on any of the plants in there just not the delicate ones i spend money and time growing!

That is a bit of an oddly stocked tank... Danios and Barbs being warmwater, the goldfish being coldwater. Also, a goldfish would prefer a tank 30g+ due to adult size. As for the apple snail, the prefer slightly cooler water, between 65-82F/18.3-27.7C. I would put the snail in, but would consider rehoming the goldfish.

Goldfish is very happy for now although he is temporary, both the barb and danios are happy as larry and in a water temp that suits them.

what i'm agreeing with you. i'm basically saying that they prefer it cooler than tropical, sub tropical.

Fancies are normally sub tropical to tropical 18-24C so can be kept with tropical fish, Single tailed sp are cold water and long term tropical conditions make them very susceptible to disease, puts their metabolism on max speed so they have shorter lives. How do you know the goldy is happy are you a psychic?

Hi there - No of cause I’m not psychic - he just sleeps with a big smile on his face and sings in the shower ;-)

what we are saying with "sub tropical" is that a fish tank indoors whether it is heated or not is that the temp inside the tank is generally not going to drop below 16c and can rise to 24c meaning sub tropical. cold water is out door pond.
