Hey,

So how long do I need to soak red wood in water? My tank has arrived and cabinet built. I’ve had red wood soaking in a bucket outside for 2 days now. But want to get the sand in and the wood placed so I can add moss to the root and decide on what rocks I’m wanting to pop in.

How much does this wood release tannings?

I usually soak wood until it sinks. How long that takes varies from piece to piece. I've had wood that's taken a couple of days and another piece which took 3 weeks.
If you can't wait until it sinks, you could put a rock on top of the wood in the tank to hold it down till it's waterlogged enough to stay down by itself.

I am glueing the wood to some slate to keep it at the bottom. I’m more about the tannings if this wood basically mate if you get me?

Spider wood releases fewer tannin than other species of driftwood, so it should be minimal.

Spider wood usually takes 1-4 days to sink, depending on the size of the piece.

Brilliant I can now get it attached to the slate and then stick it in place and add the sand! happy times!

Then the fun begins!

Driftwood can release tannins for years so there is no way of saying how long it will take before it stops releasing tannins. Some wood stops after a month, other pieces continue for years.
