They're so LITTLE. They're less than 1/8 of an inch long, but I see some red on their bodies and black on their tails. I caught 5 for the breeding trap, and any others are being too elusive to catch.

Will they survive with the 10% water changes I do along with the Ich medication going in?

Congratulations! They should be able to survive the water changes just fine. As for the ich medication, since it can be strong, the rule of thumb is to half dose and treat longer for the fry's sake.

Thanks.
Luckily they're sticking to hiding in the rocks so I don't have to worry about them getting sucked into what I try to remove water with. Glad I vaccumed the gravel last night!

oops, forgot to say CONGRATS, well that would be a mess if they weren't hiding in the rocks lol

Edit: OKAY THEN ANNA  lol

That's what the edit button is for. ;)

Good luck gravel vaccuming again without getting them! The safest way to do that would be to put some kind of fine mesh (pantyhose, breeder net) or sponge in the vaccum....of course, it then makes it harder for larger pieces of waste to get up there, but the fry should learn soon enough to stay away from the gravel vac.

yeah i think she's glad b/c she doesn't have to do it with the fry in it...last time i had fry but no small tank for them, id clean the tank and try to catch all the fry first and if not i'd watch carefully as I vaccumed and I would see fry going into the bucket then id get it out and put it in my Star Wars slurpee cup *is that sacreligous?! ;)* first time i did that i found/caught 6 fry and maybe i did have another tank but my betta was in it and i was thinking about making moves to other tanks and such but then was convinced it'd be ok to put the fry back in on top of the plants floating at the top...unfortunately all my platys realized what had happened then slowly moved in on the planted area and picked off the fry one by one...

POOOOOR FRY :-(

yeah they were fine at first and then they started disappearing so i was like hmm when i get home from work ill move the ones i can find...then i came home and all gone :-( which is why i heavily planted the 55 gallon and have nets all over the place in case i need to grab one quick to move fry to a fry tank :) i probably should have at least another 30 cycling right now...but again no cash

i think what she means is b/c they're so small right now that maybe by the next gravel vaccuming they'll be big enough not to worry about the gravel vac?? With my fry tank I plan to either carefully vaccum up or put clean water in a cup, move the fry into that clean the tank then readjust the fry back into their tank so i don't have to bother being careful with the vaccum....actually im glad this was posted as I have to do that today sometime ;)

Oh yeah, I'm going to do it again.

They've just gotta be big enough to be able to move out of the way first :p They're hard to move around right now.

congradtulations!
what i would do is catch all the fry first to be sure they dont get sucked up by mistake.
its only for their sake.
good luck

black molly3 :)

I was able to catch six out of possibly ten. The others keep hiding in the rocks, and I'm too afraid I'm going to smush them if I keep going after them >.<
