The top most leaf is a bit shredded, and I need to get rid of it...looks bad. Where do I cut this, to prune off the leaf. Do I cut as close to the roots as possible or what? If I cut just under the leaf, will a new one grow back from the runner?

Cut the leaf stem at the base - so you will remove the leaf and its stem
