hi,
i bought a red thai crab yesterday from a so called reputable shop and i seemed to have been completly misinformed about theses wonderful creatures! I know i should have really researched them before buying but after the advice i received i thought it would be ok, i now know that i need to somehow make access for the crab to come out of the water every so often, but i am struggling as to what methods to use? i have some plastic plants but they dont seem strong enough for mr crabs!! i cant use bogwood because of the soaking period. i am really stuck and i need answers quick to help mr crabs!!!!please help!!!!!!

In short I'm afraid the tank is completely unsuitable for Red Thai Land Crabs, They ideally require more land space than water; and brackish water at that.

My other concern is what else is in the biorb as small fish would be on the menu of the crab

thanks for reply.
That too is also a concern of mine! i have minnows, balloon mollies, catfish and a neon gourami in my tank i really dont know what to do for the best now!
thanks again xx

Take the crab back to the shop and argue that you were misinformed about the crab. If they have any interest in the wellbeing of the livestock they sell they will take it off your hands either for free or for a full refund. If not, you know not to go back there. If they dont take it back try calling around your LFS and seeing if they will take the little fella.

Take the crab back or rehome it. Can't mod a BiOrb to give crabs enough space, either on the floor or out of water. Crabs will also happily catch and kill fish, even ones larger than them.

Always research an animal before getting it. Some shop assistants are excellent at seeming knowledgeable and competent when they are anything but.
