Red Tailed Shovel Nose Catfish

My Tank has;

1 x shovelnosed Cat

2 x Bala shark

1 x rainbow shark

4 x zebra danio

2 x Loachers about 7cm in legnth

If you keep the cat that's shortly all u will have

Years ago I bought a small Tiger shovelnose and within 3 months it was 15" and had eaten everything else in the tank including some fairly large aggressive fish

after removing the catfish and bala sharks is there anything you could recommend as suitable tank-mates ie clown loach or gold tiger barbs??. please could use some expert help dont want to rely on store recommendations again...

Clown Loaches prefer a mature tank, best kept in groups of 5+ and need a minimum tank size of 75 Gallons.
Gold Tiger Barbs can be nippy so they may restrict your stocking in the future. If they are kept in groups of 8+, then this does cut down their aggression towards other fish. Might be best to let your tank mature for a couple of months or more before adding Barbs.
I would up the number of Zebra Danios to at least 6 as they are a shoaling fish.
What type of fish are you looking for? Something colourful or just shoaling fish?
As the tank is newly set up, you would be best starting out with hardier fish like Danios, Mollies and Platies.

You have loads of choices - I'd get a book and reed up on the different fish available

thankyou! looking for something colourful really but also easy to care for and would get along with the rainbow shark. a shoal would be nice too

i cant believe such a small fish would grow so big! appauled at the store!!

Unfortunately, this happens all too often. Many stores are more concerned with money than education for their workers and the consumer. Just start researching the fish you like at the store before you bring them home. :good: :)

If i did my math right 200 liters converts to about 60 U.S. gallons. I believe you would enjoy a small school of pictus cats, (Pimelodus pictus). They only get to about 4.7 inches that's about 11.75 cm. They like to school and be in groups of four or more.
