We have very recently bought a 200litre tank for my little boy, he loved the look of this catfish, we asked the attendant, she said it would be fine in that sized tank, however, upon internet investigation we have got to know that it will grow up to be an absolute beast. Input please?

Fed/kept correctly, it will outgrow your tank in a month.

Take it back to the shop and enjoy your new tank with more suitable fish. Dont forget to research your fish before you buy!

anyway as too keep it a dwarf?? lol!

Is a good looking fish.

They may be good looking fish, but they are a hybrid between two of the fastest growing and largest catfish in the amazon.

EDIT: I just realized that you might be talking about just the redtailed cat. Big fish either way.

Yep they sure are a good looking fish. I have managed to grow red tail cats and tiger shovel nose up to 15" within 3 months.

Only a cruel idiot would try and keep them as a dwarf.

It will die of stunted growth.
Wow is that how big they grow.
Shouldn't be sold like irrdesant sharks.

They also told me that 2 silver sharks would be ok in this size tank, is that right????

Actually, the TSN can get bigger than the picture posted. I couldn't find a picture with a bigger specimen.

If you are talking about iridescent sharks, then NO.

Here is a pic of a baby... is it one of these?

I would get rid of it ASAP, along with the redtail.

Bala shark need no less than 75 gallons so the lfs is telling porkies.
Bala sharks are shoaling fish and need to be in groups of six.
Research the fish before you buy them so you no the adult size.

they grow to about 25cm dont they? Got a rainbow shark aswell, but that will be fine i think.

How may fish do you have in your tank and which type.
Rainbow sharks are aggressive so no i wouldn't add one.

Oh come one people! Since when are pangassius sold as Silver sharks! Silver sharks are just that! they grow to around 12inches, do best in groups of 3 plus and will eventually need 100 UK gallons or more, but being a slow growing fish grow out tanks could be used.

Long term 200litres is too small, but depending what size they are now your tank could last them a year or 2.

Rainbow sharks are aggressive when compared to guppies. Usually do well in a slighly larger fish community than your average tetra.

Talk about jumping all over me. Anyway, yes, they are sometimes sold as silver sharks around here. Your silver sharks are bala sharks over here in the states. This is why I prefer scientific names.

Don't make a mistake and forget that there are people from everywhere on here and not everything is called the same thing.

My Tank has;

1 x shovelnosed Cat

2 x Bala shark

1 x rainbow shark

4 x zebra danio

2 x Loachers about 7cm in legnth
