Red Spotted Gold Severum

Nooooooooooooo my thread fin and JD have splits in their fins what could this be ???

with the jd prob fighting! as long as it dont look red/infected and you got good water should heal up . minxy that purple plant i only know the latin name of it its a slikleafus fakeus

LMAO Mark :)

Foley, I would suggest they have been having a bit of a go at each other, nipping at each others fins, as mark said as long as they arent infected or rotting, then a couple of extra water changes will soon heal them up, unless of course, they keep up the nipping.

well the jack dempsey always chases smething round but nothing gives him any back so i cant understand how he has them i was just reading the "IS HE ILL" topic and sounds similar with the fin damage there is no redness around any of them i did have a nitrite reading the other day but did a water change i will test my water now again and see how it is now

wo nitrite reads 0.7 and ammonia is 0  might be due to me taking my carbon out whilst treating for ich i have never had a bad reading like this before whats my best bet in sorting it

Water changes is the only way to get the nitrIte down, start with a 50% temp matching the water, then test again, if its still high, another change, so on and so forth until the levels are 0, you will need to keep testing daily for a while and w/c until its settles down again. If you treated for ich, the meds could have knocked the bacteria.

true i have a small bottle of API stress zyme shall i whack all that in ?? cant do any harm i think its due to the nitrite spike the fins have gone like this i will get on a water change now if there is anything else i need to do just post my i have my laptop next to me
cheers

Never used stress zyme stuff myself so not sure what it does, but if you want to.

The stats wont be helping the fins, are any of the other fish showing any signs of stress?

stress zyme is pretty useless tbh, although it is said be 'a bacterial aid'
Stress Coat may be useful as it contains aloe-vera which protects the fish from infection, although as said water changes are usually more than enough to repair fins

i have stress coat as well they are only 30ml bottles i will put them both in and its the JD and acara with the fin issue

hey minxy did you check out my severum vid ? its in tropical discussion think its slipped down to page 1 . gives you an idea of the kind of antics you can expect lol

right done a 40% water change when should i test the water i added all of the 30ml of stress coat and 30ml of sytress zyme.

@ Mark, yeah I did, mad as a hatter

@Foley, test again in a hour to see what the levels are at, if they are still high, you will need to do another change. If they are ok, test again in the morning, could just be a blip because of the meds.

a small drop in nitrite it went down to 0.4 so now i just did another 20% water change al check the readings later on to see if there is another drop then do another water change tomorrow
