hi all i bought 2 red spot severum's from my lfs yesterday that they said where a breeding pair.they are doing alot of digging and lip locking is this breeding behavior or is the lip locking aggression they lock lips and seem to push each other back and forth and then they do a silly dance next to each other.also tonight the male seems to be cleaning the side of the filter.

here is some pics of them lip locking

They are lovely :)
I would love to have some of these fish if i ever get a bigger tank

thanks they wont cheap with being a breeding pair

It sounds like breeding behavior to me and if they ever spawn only time will tell if your male is fertile or not as with this type of sev there's a very high percentage of sterile males.
Really nice pair all the same.

Love red spotted. Have two myself. I love all severum.

I'd agree with Bonzo %.

thanks.another question.i have been reading on the net that oscars make good tank mates for these but when i said that to the guy in the fish shop he said that oscars will kill them is this right or should they be ok with them?

Cant comment on a Oscar with your Sevs as ive a few Sevs but not with an Oscar, but i think theres a few people that have done this without any bother but i suppose it all depends on the oscar.

I've kept an oscar with different severum in the past, that oscar was sold on but they're both good tank mates (usually) each oscar has a different personality though, you could get a crazy one which is unlikely or a good one. You'll need good filtration and a big tank. Oscars grow roughly 1 inch per month. Great wet pets though.

Bonzo, how's your lot doing?

thanks for that micko i am going to see weather these 2 breed first before thinking about putting other fish in there

Micko, they're doing grand maybe a little to good, spawning around every 10/14 days. Thinking off lifting another batch soon.

Squidgy1 if they are the only ones in the tank at least there will be no other fish to steal the eggs and hopefully fry, so you will find out soon enough if your male can do whats required from him, fingers crossed.

hi bonzo thats is why i am keeping them on there own.if they dont breed then will think of putting something else in with them

I hope they breed for you squidgy1.

What all have you got now Bonzo?

really happy they have just started laying there eggs on the filter i took a short vid of them doing it i will post it soon :)

I too have read they go well together, all though I havent kept a oscar my self so cant be certain- if u get a juivenile oscar or one the same size as the severums
then I cant see a problem a rising.
