I have noticed recently that my red scooter blenny has started to close his/her tail fin up. He is still lifting his dorsal fin and spike but am getting concerned about his lack of tail use. Any suggestions what could be wrong? He is eating well (Mysis and enriched brine shrimp and copepods that are in the tank as well as the live rock-lots off).
What can I do to help?
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate <10
Other tankmates: 1 peppermint shrimp, 1 small red legged hermit crab, 1 rogue teddy bear crab (in process of removing)
Lots of caulerpa 2 species
Tank size 10 gallons - i know not ideal for this sp of fish but bought him on bad LFS advice and wrongly did not check myself before buying. Have been reassured that if he is eating well then he should be ok. But looking to upgrade tank size in near future.
Tank is a viaaqua tank with a filter system within hood. water trickles over simple filter containing sponge, fine wool, polyfilter pad and marine carbon then back into tank. Lots of o2 bubbles in tank could taht be an issue?
He does flick himself against the substrate but only when feeding and pretty sure its either to cover the food in sand or to break it up.
Got in tonight and he had buried himself-he came out for food-but I have never seen him bury himself in the day before-he usually only buries at night.
Also possibly a very fine looking thread from his eye.
Please help
