I want a bit of colour in my aquariums. ive seen a few red plants, but are there any reeeeaaaally nice ones about?

lighting, 2 x 38w tropical juwel, 18inch high 200l. water is hard, pH is 8.

thanks :good: was looking at java lastnight and a lot of the ones i liked were rotala, and the Alternanthera Reineckii was one of my faves (but not sure it would suit my water :/ ). A few of my plants have a red tinge to them anyway, i guess that means i have a fairly decent amount of light already. i dont want to add brighter bulbs though coz i dont wanna start the whole co2 thing. carbon and ferts is enough ;)

whats this? i thought it was dying coz of its colour, but it seems healthy enough, and is growing new leaves :)

yeah, its a Wendtii (red) and a healthy looking one at that.

How are you getting on with the red cabomba, Steve, from what i understand, its really hard to grow?

brown Ian, not red ;)

It will when mature be like a hologram sticker wher you look from different angles and you see burgundy, or brown or purple etc. It may still have some green tinges to it as well.

Doesn't grow as fast as my myriophilum, rotala or ambulia but its doing fine and the weekly trimming means its getting very bushy.

The tropica website has a quick link to plants filed by colour, you can find out a bunch of red plants really quickly

Its arguable wether there is any such plant as Wendtii 'red'

Some people may describe brown as Red but it is supposed to be called brown.assure you it is actually known as brown.

Tropica only sell 4 varieties, green, brown, Mi Oya and tropica. The latter 2 have different shaped leaves.

Even when people describe a plant as red it is sometimes the green and other times the brown and they are just describing a colour they see (or told when they bought it)

That plant above is most definately 'var' brown:

These ones are redder than the one above but definately a brown too:

Maybe me being pedantic but better to use the right descriptives :)
