red devil has a red gill on the elft side, bright red, maybe a bit swollen too... just on the one side. all th eother fish are healthy. the red devil is not bottom sitting, he is active and acting normally...it's been like this for about a week... what to do? I hope he'll be ok, he is my fav fish.

What is your tank and stocking?

Water stats?

Is it just his gill or on other areas too?

I'l do my best to help but i'm no expert.

just his gill on the one side...

90 gallon tank.

also has pleco, columbian pike, jack dempsey, convict

Never had any issues with the tank until now. red devil is actually the oldest of my fish. i've had him since he was small and he's never had any issues until now.

Red gills can be bad water quality, bacterial gillrot, gill flukes.
Can you post your water stats please in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

my water is fine i forget what it is but i checked it like 2 days ago and it was all fine. how do i now if it's flukes or bacteria? why don't any of my other fish have it?

Stressed fish get sick. Just like people. I was stressed out from work and around lots of germs I'm now sick with a cold. You need to take the sick fish out give him his own little tank. If you did a gill scrape and looked at it with a microscope is the only way to know 100% what it is. I would do a large water change and take the sick one out. I would treat for parasites first with coppersafe. Then treat from the secondary infection.

But you really need to check your ammonia nitrites and, nitrates before you do anything.

If there no signs of flicking and rubbing, excess mucas, laboured breathing, darting, erratic swimming, jerky swimming movements. I would take the bacterial route.

no signs of any of that stuff...

i do have among the other cichlids a pleco and a columbian pike... any meds that will treat bacterial infection without harming the rest? I don't have a second tank to put him in... I've got an extra 29 though, but that's got lots of zebra danios, 3 dwarf frogs and a bicher in it.

Recheck your ammonia. Amonnia can soar in a matter of days. The redness on its gill
could be a burn due to high amonnia. And any chance of a picture?

The gill will only start to heal when water quality is good.
Ammonia can do alot of damage internally and externally.

if it is ammonia will it heal?

Yes it might heal but will only keep coming back if you don't do something about the ammonia. I suggest lots of water changes for fish cuts and burns...
