Red Eye Tetra - Or Something Similar?

Hello,

I bought some red eye tetras but then searched google and around for descriptions and sexing information but found red eyed tetras that dont look like mine.

Especially, mine is way too round (could it be genetically modified?). I attach a photo of it here.

Also, can you tell if its male of female (in case it is a known fish to you) ?

Im 99% sure that its a red eye
Its just a really odd shape

REALLY odd shape, its like a black widow shape but red eye markings.

i know its not sick or something similar i bought it from the petshop yesterday, they had it listed as red eye tetra. ITs the shape that makes me curious as well! they had many more like that one, all the same shape, and i could see, amongst them, some that looked like normal red eyed tetras.

if it were carrying eggs, wouldnt it be one of the exceptions in the petshop's tank? cause almost all the fish in that tank looked like this one, round etc.

I think this is just a name that LFS gave to. The homer tetra get name from a cartoon show called "The Simpsons" where this drunken fat man named Homer with his round belly, therefore that's why the LFS called balloon red eyed tetra a homer tetra. Balloon version fish are hard to sex due to its shape, even in livebearers and the cichlids.
