Hi I hope someone can help,

I have a Red Empress upside down floating on the surface of my tank. He was fine last night when i went to bed but this morning when I awoke there he was on the surface. I never seen this before and cannot find out much information other then the possibility of swimming bladder?

My tank stats are within normal ranges LFS really good at that but they closed for xmas and cannot help.

He was being picked on a little so to prevent damage i placed him in a breading net out of harm’s way.

Can someone help I don’t want to lose this fish.

Oh his not swimming at all just floating. Breathing and looking around as per normal.

Thanking you in advance,
T

What size tank is it in?

What are the actual tank stats? (not saying you're wrong that they're in 'normal' ranges, but it helps to actually post a full set)

What size is the fish?

Was it put into the breeding net before or after it started floating?

What are the other tank mates?

And have you added anything new recently, eg. fish, ornaments, plants, decorations, medication etc

Tank Size: 6ft*1ft*1.5ft 56 gallons 255 liters

current tank status : n/a work mate has test kit other Red Empresses are ok. Will post ASAP

My Wife dose tell me that Santa may be giving me a bigger tank but she won’t let on

Okie dokes. Well I'm no fish illness expert, but I figured they need that sort of info to start making suggestions. Hopefully someone is around ASAP. :)

Good luck, though often when the fish gets to the point of being belly up, the outlook isn't great.

Does he look bloated or thin.
Hows the fish breathing.
Once fish turn upside down they rarely make it.

Does he look pale or darker in colour.
I would also do a water change till you know water stats.

Sadly he did not make it

He was not bloated or thin. His breathing was a little slower then normal. He was pale in colour. I did do a water change as soon as I saw him

Thankyou for your help

Bless Him.
R.I.P.

Check your water stats.
Good Luck.
