(someone suggested I post this in this section, so I'll give it a try)
Hi, I just got my turtle earlier today. Some lady was selling them and I decided to get one. However, she made it seem so easy to take care of them and as I see now that is clearly wrong. I have a picture to show you what my turtle looks like. In the picture you can see the cage and such. This is what he came in when I bought him. She just said that we could could keep him in there until he looks too big for it. Now I know that is not true. Can I take him out and hold him and play with him? Do they bite? I want to be able to pick him up and stuff. I went through some sites and did some searching, but I really couldn't find much. Any help you can give me would be great. Here are the picture links. Thank you so much.

I'm just looking for any advice from someone that has actually had a red eared slider and can help me out. The cage problems and everything are pretty much fixed. (I'm still in the process of setting everything up) but what I'm having problems with now is he just sleeps all day. He doesn't swim or move or climb or anything, he just floats and sleeps. He appears dead, but he's not, that is how lifeless he is. I don't know if that is normal or not. If anyone knows someone I can talk to I'd appreciate it and thanks.

Hes pushing on the walls of that critter keeper right now, its time to move him to a bigger tank. Also he needs somewhere to get out of the water and dry his shell. You can pick him up and hold him if your not afraid of salmonella (depending on the breeder he may or may not have it) and I'm 100% certain that he won't bite you if you keep your hands away fromhis mouth. If you want him to be more active you need to give him enought room to move about in and occasioally it would be a good idea to give him some live food to chase around.

Yeah, I wash my hands before and after I pick him up just incase. He seems to be doing better, he's actually moving around now. Thanks
