I have saved my money and finally purchased a 350 gallon acrylic tank (www.tenecor.com). I was wondering how big my already 7" red bellied pacu might get in the new 350 gallon tank. The tank is 8 feet long, 3 feet wide, and 2 feet tall.

They can grow to 30" but i think around 15" i more likely in an aquarium.
Thats one huge tank you got there - only about 18 times bigger than mine :p

24 inches is the usual size. there was one that lived in an lfs in a 120G tank... busted straight through it one night and died. they get to be HUGE fish... i've heard of them getting to be 3 ft+ in captivity.

Such a huge tank!

Be sure to show some pictures once you get things set up!

It would be so tempting to put just a snail or something weird like that in there. :hey:

Or a giant school of danios... hundreds of danios!

Anyway, best of luck with your tank! :good:

I will definitely post pictures when it's up and running. I like the idea of putting something tiny in there...that would hilarious...maybe about six neon tetras?

The reason I asked about the size is all acrylic tanks come with built-in tops. And in those tops are access areas for feeding/maintenance. What I was afraid of is getting a fish in the tank that was too big to get out! But the access areas for this tank are 24" x 18" so diagonally the hole measures 30". If the pacu is starting to get too big to be removed from the tank, it will have to be removed or else it is stuck in there dead or alive...what a mess that would be!!!

Or 6 hundered. :good: :fun:

How about choosing your three favorite small schooling species (one for top, one for middle, and one for the bottom (cories for that!)) and just having about a hundered or so of each of those? :fun:

Danios, neons, and cories would be neat! (Can't remember if neons are middle dwelling fish or not...)

I found a restaraunt tank on the internet somewhere.

Was 16ft long.

And it was just jam packed woith neons and other schoolng fish, Masses of cories, and other small fish. It looked brilliant. Like a rainbow.
It was planted wit giant pieces of bogwood too. I have to find that again!

I want! I want!

While pacu are naturally vegetarian, they are not unknown to eat small fish that easily fit in their mouths, so you may well lose neons or danios or cories and such to the pacu once it is fully grown.
