I'm going to guess that there are a varied amount of responses when I ask.. What is the best filter?

But I'm looking for a filter for a 10 Gallon tank, that isn't too much for guppies as I hear they get exhausted easily. (or maybe filters have some sort of dial that can increase or decrease the flowrate??)
I don't know which one to go for.. though I'm currently looking at internal filters, as opposed to external filters. or maybe those that hang on the back? I don't know.. theres just so many.

If anyone could give me a steer in the right direction or one that they would recommend it would be great thanks. (also something that isn't too noisy)

external canister filters are good, i use them and wont go back to internals ever, you can control much more with them, and you can have both maniacal and biological filtration in them

iv got fluval 105, its recommended up to 100L tanks theres alsorts of sizes

Maniacal filtration? It filters out the maniacs? These people think of everything.....

But seriously, I prefer externals to internals, especially when it comes to cleaning time. HOBs would be OK though.

I'll second the motion for a canister filter.  You can get a little Fluval 105/106 and have fine control over the flow.  Alternatively you can build your own and saw a little money.  Check out the site:  REMOVED BY MODERATOR

For 10 gallons you can also build one with a bottle, some bio ceramic and an airpump like my profile photo all for about $15 or less and if you add another $1.50 you can get a valve which would let you adjust the airflow.

I've none with AquaOne but do with AquaClear. Maybe it's the same product but different name?
I think it is the same product.. I just googled.. Aqua One 200 and Aqua Clear 200.. they seem like the same product. I just picked this filter out of random for googling thats all. But it does look the same.
Given your experience how is it for you? :)

It was terrific when I had it. The only reason I do not use it anymore is because I bought a Fluval canister filter.
If I was going to purchase another HOB or needed one for a smaller tank or to compliment the canister I'd definitely go with the AquaClear ones.

Aqua one would have been my choice if I had not purchased a Eheim 2217 its a bit of an over kill in a 125l tank, but going into a 300l tank soon
I thought about it carefully when I was looking for filters best to buy bigger capacity if you upgrade the tank for future proofing.
This is a great filter not cheap called :

Aquael External

But best value filter is Aqua one found here:

Hi tonks did you still want internal or have you been steered towards a HOB or an external?
Do not want to advise one way if you have decided on another :)

I'm currently still undecided but I am looking at all my options :)
Here in Perth, I have not seen eheim or fluval filters sold anywhere in the pet stores.. I'd have to try ebay I guess.
But I've also read a few reviews on te eheim 2213 and fluval 105's.. I've found a mixture of responses.
What were your thoughts on any filters? I'm assuming you were going to sway for internal? :)

I like Aqueon HOB filters, TopFin also works well but isn't as good quality.  However, I understand that HOBs aren't necessarily the best for all tanks...but they work for me :)
