Recommendations For Juwel Rekord 96

I'm going to contradict Miss Wiggle here and say that Steel Blue Killies are fine for community tanks :good: I used to keep them, and the gold versions you can have, and the only agression I ever saw was within their own species, namely amongst the males. Supprisingly, the blue males never bothered the gold ones... They didn't both my siamise fighter at the time, but he bothered them, so he was removed  My only dislike for them is that they are anual fish in the wild, so you can only expect them to last 2years maximum

All the best

ok i'll happily bow to super killifish wisdom, just know that they are generally only advised for community tanks, not got personal experience with them.

Hi everyone, I have a rekord 96 too and was just wanting to clarify what rabbut said about water changes. I understand I have to rinse out a blue sponge every week, but regarding the white one do I have to replace every week or just rinse it out? becky

I have a Rekord 120. Stocking is in my Sig below (30G). Fine white coral sand substrate + bogwood. Looks good.

Jazee B. I clean all of the media about once a month in tank water.

Staggering is safer than doing all media at once. :good: I find that the floss getts clogged to a point where it cannot be rinced clean after a week, but that can be played by ear a little  When it does need replacing, get some polly floss from a dress makers, ask for wadding, and cut it to size. You can get a 6X3 foot sheet for about £1.50. Thats will make arround 30-50 pads, verses the five Juwel branded pads you can buy for £1.75 round my way.....Which makes sence?

All the best

TBH I have NEVER replaced the filter media and the tanks been up for nearly a year. I just give them all a good clean. Water stats have been steady as rock.

I ment staggering cleaning is safer, for the same reason staggering replacement is. The only media I ever replace is floss, and carbon whenever I run it. The rest of the time I do the same as OscarWilde :good:

Just think how much MORE money the manufacturers would make if we replaced our media every month like they want us to.
