hi, nearly got everything i need for my first high tech planted tank set up.

have read that i should use mostly fast growing plants to begin with and replace them as the tank "settles"

any recommendations greatly recieved!

Being a plant newbie myself, the ones that spring to mind are hygrophilia difformis (wisteria) and hygro polysperma, vallis is pretty fast growing in the right conditions, cabomba also, Im sure others with way more experience with plants than me, can think of alot more.

vallis growing very fast in my tank with liquid ferts & no extra lighting/co2 etc. been in the tank for a couple of weeks, growing like weeds & already put out new plants :good:

Whoever came up with that advise is spot-on IMO. Start a planted tank with 'weeds' to estabilish it.

Examples of what I reckon are Algae-Busting weed-like Plants
Ludwigia Repens
Brazilian Water Ivy
Small Ambulia
Mexican Oak Leaf
Water Sprite
Hornwort
Egeria Densa
Egeria Najas
Rotala Rotundifolia
Hygrophila Difformis
Hygrophila Polysperma
Bacopa Monneri
Bacopa Caroliana
Cabomba Carolina
Hydrocotyle Leucocephala
Limnophila Aquatica
Limnophila Sessiliflora
Limnophila Indicum
Myriophylum Aquaticum
Oh & don't forget Floating plants (careful they don’t block too much light)

Bacopa monniera Bacopa
Cabomba caroliniana Cabomba
Ceratophyllum demersum Hornwort
Ceratophyllum demersum var. 'Mexico'
Ceratopteris thalicroides Indian Water Fern
Cryptocoryne balanasae Bubble Jade
Echinodorus amazonicus Ruffled Sword Plant
Echinodorus bleheri Amazon Sword Plant
Egeria densa Elodea aka Pondweed
Egeria najas Ditchweed
Hygrophila corymbosa
Hygrophila polysperma
Hygrophila difformis Water Wisteria
Hygrophila sp. various
Limnophila sessiliflora Ambulia
Ludwigia repens Ludwigia
Sagittaria platyphylla
Sagittaria subulata
Shinnersia rivularis Mexican Oak Leaf Plant
Vallisneria americans var. natans
Vallisneria spiralis Common (Straight) Vallis

so this collection on a popular aution site seems good then?
£20ish for 100 plants!

also any that should be avoided? ie that will root too deep or spread to fast to be easily removed!

Crikey! got a link bud?
e that will root too deep or spread to fast to be easily removed!
Honestly, god knows... look them up in Tropica if they've got 'em

The easiest way to figure out what plants are easy to raise is to go to the LFS. Whatever is cheap is the easy plant. If a plant is hard to raise, the grower will charge more for it and the LFS will be able to get more for it because everyone in town won't already have plenty. It means you really don't need to know much to get the right one.
