I really fancy setting up a tank with lots of really small fish in it (ok not necessarily lots but some anyway).

The tank options are 7.5 gallon or a 9.5 gallon (preferably the 7.5 gallon).

Can you recommend a nice small fish that can go in there and will add a nice splash of colour?

We already have galaxy rasbora but I was actually looking for something a bit smaller (I had the rasbora in the 7.5 gallon temporarily and they were shy and reserved; moved up to a 20 gallon and they are in their element).

Edit: It would be a species only tank (maybe with the addition of an apple snail).

I can personally recommend Chilli Rasbora, roughly the same size as a Galaxy, males especially get a seriously deep red colour.

endlers are beautiful fish are very small and could be kept in 7.5 gallon :good:

Rasbora Species:

-= Microrasbora species list =-
Microrasbora erythromicron (Danio erythromicron, Emerald dwarf rasbora)
Microrasbora gatesi
Microrasbora kubotai
Microrasbora nana
Microrasbora rubescens

-= Boraras species list =-
Boraras brigittae
Boraras maculatus (Dwarf rasbora, Dwarf-spotted rasbora, Spotted rasbora, Pygmy rasbora)
Boraras merah
Boraras micros
Boraras urophthalmoides (Least rasbora, Exclamation-point rasbora)

Microrasbora erythromicron and Boraras merah are my favourites from those ones...

I know a lot have since been reclassified, the erythromicron, kubotai and nana have all been moved to the danio family Microdevario i think.

Sparkling Gouramis, Endlers, Scarlet Badis (Dario dario) and Ember Tetras all look great too :) thought personally im sick of the sight of endlers :p

I've heard green neons max out at only a couple of cm, though I don't know much else about them. Dwarf puffers are also tiny little things but don't know how suited they are to a 7.5 gallon tank.

Normans Lampeye Killifish... might be a plain silvery colour, but when the light catches them, they literally SHINE!!!!!

WCMM are too active, green neons do get larger than 2 cms.

I'd go with the chilli rasboras; fill the tank with moses and they'll look stunning.

wcmm also need a bigger tank as they need to swim quickly in order to not suffocate

Be mindfull of that apple snail, if it does not get fed correctly od dies of old age etc the ammonia spike he will give off in a small tank has a possibilty to wipe the tank out. Just something to think about.

Some nice fancy Pink or Blue German Ramshorn snails being sold in the classifieds on here :) very nice!

They have chilli rasboras on eBay. I'd love some but my sevs would probably eat them.

Wow loads of suggestions there; thank you :)

^^ Thats fine, I've had apple snails for years, I was just thinking if I do set it up I might add one to the the tank to separate them out a bit.

Look up the Trichopsis pumila, the sparkling/pygmy gourami. I had these in a fluval edge a few years ago and they were beautiful in well lit conditions. :good:
