got my tank today, 30 x 15 x 12 but dont have a stand :(:( really want to get one sorted tomorrow so that i can start the cycle, anyone got any idea where i could get a decent stand? for quite cheap, not bothered about looks so long as it does the job :)

Get 2 large concrete blocks, the kind that are about a foot square and 4 inches thick. Stand them apart the length of your tank and put a piece of 3/4 inch, call it 2 cm, thick plywood on top that is about 1/2 inch bigger all around than the tank. Set the tank on top and you have a cheap practical strong stand. It will look like SH*** but it will keep your tank off the floor and let you enjoy the tank. To dress it up, hang a piece of cloth over the plywood to hide the concrete block before you put the tank in place. You choose the cloth to suit yourself and it becomes a "custom" aquarium stand.

Edit for spelling and clarifying.

Ah good idea :D where could i get concrete blocks and plywood from though :S

I get them from a building supply store. The ones that deal with individuals rather than contractors often have smaller pieces of plywood for a lot less than a full sheet would cost. The blocks are called "cinder block" in the US. I don't know what they would call them elsewhere. They are meant to be used to build concrete fences.

I think thats what there called here, are they quite fragile? like smash really easy? think im going to have to have a look tomorrow :) hope my mam doesnt mind me having big bricks in my room lol

They are quite stable once you put that aquarium's weight on them. The 4 inch width gives them a decent base. They could be easily broken with a hammer but are very strong under simple compression which is what you get with a fish tank. They come in various decorative patterns around here but even a plain block will work fine.

cinder blocks are easier to break than true concrete blocks but if you distribute the weight evenly you shouldn't have a problem.

I'v been looking at things in argos but nothing says that it will hold things up to like 100kg... im guessing my tank will be about 100.... is there nothing i can buy off internet or something? need to be like 30-50 pound...
