i have found her she is dead the rocks rearest the top right she was floating under  :-(

regards scot

i will defo get a green mandarin some point next month

Really sorry to hear that Scott.

When you look at one, try to look from all angles. Ensure that it looks fat from the side and the chest bone does not stick out. Look from underneath and make sure the belly is nicely round, if its sunk, walk away. Look from the top, there should be fat at the front getting thinner toward the tail but it should do so gradually. If there is any part that looks as thin as the tail, again walk away.

If you look at this pic from above, the fatness nicely tapers to to the rear.

Not as good a picture as I would like to show you, will try and get one for you.

thanks for all your help tina i just like to think i could of saved that but it was really thin and i knew that but i had got the copods thought that if i bought a few tubs and start a culture i could have saved her but not this time but least i tried

regards scott

Really sorry Scott - I too lost a mandy, felt sorry for her as she was so very thin. I now believe once they have reached that point it is very unlikly that you will save them. But at least she had a good last few days in your tank instead of stuck in the lfs :good:

the only other thing i was thinking about i have a tank with 5 sepreat deviders in there and all the same system water i was thinking if i had the pod culture i could but a few in a space of there own as if i have pods then it could be like a pod tank for mandys and scooter blennys try and fatteen them up as there would be a load of pods and rofteirs

could that work it is only a 46gal system with a 35gal sump and a dsb and an over flow box would that help the mandys as i could do that and sell them on something like that!

what you think?

regards scottt

nah one culture is enough thanks how your mandy doing tina/seffie the are beautiful fish

good good your's are beautiful i would even steel them from you lol the thing is i know you would take more care of them than a lfs its not fare as many people just feed them on frozen think they would eat that not always the case plus people think there easy to keep without asking what they should be fed nobody tell you these think well not in my lfs's

regards scott

I set the tank up purposely and designed it as the best possible system to keep Mandarins.

I knew that pods proliferate in piles of rock, therfore the way the rocks are stacked, there are plenty of places the Mandarins cannot get to for the pods to breed.

I set the culture up before buying 1 of them and was prepared to buy food initially if needed.

I also read everything I possibly could on getting Mandarins to feed on frozen food. Tonight the male has taken food with his head out of the cave and directly from the end of the syringe. That is a first!! :hyper: :good:

Most of all, I was prepared to do everything I possibly could to get them to thrive.

My LFS is a good one, she has had a female in the display tank now for 4-5 months. But mine are twice as fat as that one.

I was lucky with the initial stock, but keeping them has been down to me. If I can get them established in the tank, they should live for years.
