Rays?

i wanted to know how to tell a female bettas tail type so was given this link

but i still dont get what the rays are - sorry takes a lot of explaining for me to understand things

cos when i counted what i thought were rays i came up with more than they said was on the pics

please help me

Rays are more easily seen on a CrownTail

. You can see the ray starting from the body outwards it slowly splits and forms 2 rays or 3 or 4 have seen some pictures of them with 6 ! most betta's do sport them but it much easier to spot on a CrownTail (CT)

This is a really good picture of CraigBaines female that has 2 rays
there's the one main ray which then splits into 2
